The Incheon Seobu Police Station announced that it has arrested a man in his 30s, identified by his surname A, on charges of setting fire to his own home.
A is accused of starting a fire in the kitchen of his fifth-floor villa in Sinhyun-dong, Seo-hae-gu, Incheon, at approximately 8:00 p.m. yesterday (July 10).
Fire authorities, dispatched after receiving a report from a witness who saw smoke coming from the residence, fully extinguished the blaze at approximately 8:35 p.m., 35 minutes later.
While there were no casualties from the fire, 20 square meters of the interior and various household items were destroyed.
A's mother was inside the home at the time, but it was reported that she evacuated with A once the fire broke out.
Immediately after evacuating, A left the scene but later turned himself in at a local police substation.
During police questioning, A stated that he set the fire due to stress caused by financial difficulties.
The police plan to investigate the specific circumstances surrounding the incident.
