Spain has advanced to the semifinals of the North and Central America World Cup for the first time in 16 years after defeating Belgium 2-1.

Spain took the lead in the 30th minute of the first half with a goal from Fabian Ruiz, but conceded their first goal of the tournament 11 minutes later when De Ketelaere scored with a header.

The tight deadlock was broken in the 43rd minute of the second half.

Cubarsi's long-range shot was blocked by the goalkeeper, but substitute Merino finished the play to decide the match.

With this 2-1 victory, Spain has reached the semifinals for the first time in 16 years and will compete against France on July 15 for a spot in the final.
