Kim Tae-hyo, former First Deputy Director of the National Security Office at the Presidential Office, has been arrested on allegations of sending messages to allied nations justifying the emergency martial law declared on December 3.

Judge Bu Dong-sik of the Seoul Central District Court, who handles warrants for insurrection cases, issued the arrest warrant yesterday (July 10) after conducting a pre-arrest interrogation (warrant validity review) for the former deputy director, stating that there is a "risk of evidence destruction."

Kim is accused of using foreign service officials to promote the legitimacy of the martial law to major allies, including the United States, immediately after it was declared.
