President Lee Jae-myung, who is on a state visit to Mongolia, met with Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osor Uchral and requested his support in strengthening cooperation in economic exchanges, mineral resources, and the defense industry.
During the meeting held at a hotel in Ulaanbaatar on the afternoon of July 10 (local time), President Lee stated, "I hope we can build a golden age for Korea-Mongolia relations together," while making the request.
Prime Minister Uchral is the third-highest-ranking official in Mongolia, following President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh and Parliament Speaker Sandag Byambatsogt.
Prime Minister Uchral responded by saying, "I will instruct the relevant ministers to ensure that the agreements reached during the bilateral summit are effectively implemented."
He recalled, "When I was Deputy Prime Minister, I hosted a Korea-Mongolia economic forum in Korea, where I met with individuals involved in fields such as artificial intelligence, information and communications technology, and rare earth elements. I also discussed the initiation of exchanges between the Mongolian state-owned enterprise 'Erdenes Mongol' and South Korea's POSCO."
He added, "It is important for Mongolia to create opportunities to process and produce mineral resources by utilizing South Korea's technology moving forward."
Prime Minister Uchral also expressed a sense of closeness, noting, "Mongolia's administrative divisions consist of 21 'aimags' (provinces). Since the population of one aimag is about 60,000, and there are approximately 60,000 Mongolians residing in South Korea, we often say that there is a 22nd aimag in Korea."
