Homeplus workers staged a sit-in protest today (July 10) at the building housing the headquarters of MBK Partners, the largest shareholder of Homeplus.

Ahn Soo-yong, head of the Homeplus branch of the Mart Workers Union, and four other employees blocked the entrance to the lobby of the Gwanghwamun D-Tower, where MBK is located, this morning. They staged the protest while chanting slogans such as, "MBK, the main culprit behind the 'eat-and-run' at Homeplus, come out, Kim Byung-ju," and "Expel the speculative capital MBK, arrest Kim Byung-ju."

As the protesters reached the elevator entrance inside the building, MBK requested that they end the sit-in in exchange for a meeting with Vice Chairman Kim Kwang-il on the 14th.

The union accepted the offer, and the sit-in was called off around noon today.

The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) Service Federation plans to hold a general strike rally in Gwanghwamun on the 15th.
