Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has admitted that his remarks from last year, in which he claimed that Anthropic would not succeed, were incorrect.

On July 9 (local time), Musk stated on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), "I was clearly wrong about Anthropic," adding, "They are currently the clear front-runners in the artificial intelligence (AI) field."

Referring to Anthropic's top-tier AI models, he added, "No other company has released models as good as \"Mythos\" or \"Fable,\" and there is no doubt that they (Anthropic) will soon release a \"second Mythos.\""

In response to a user who suggested that Musk could destroy Anthropic by cutting off the data center lease they rely on, Musk dismissed the idea, saying, "Even if they are competitors, I would not cut off ties in a way that would cause them serious harm. That is not my style."

Anthropic is currently leasing space at "Colossus," a data center operated by SpaceXAI, a subsidiary of SpaceX, in Memphis, Tennessee.

The contract between the two companies reportedly includes a clause that allows for cancellation with a 90-day prior notice.

Previously, in September of last year, Musk criticized Anthropic on X, stating, "Victory was never a possible outcome for Anthropic."

Throughout last year, he frequently expressed negative views toward the company, accusing Anthropic of "hating Western civilization" and twisting the company's name, which implies a love for humanity, into "Misanthropic" (hating humanity).
