A report of a gas leak at a restaurant in Simgok-dong, Wonmi-gu, Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, was filed with the 119 emergency service at 5:27 a.m. today (July 10).

Upon arrival, fire authorities discovered that 7 liters of cleaning acid, which had been discarded in an outdoor food waste bin, had reacted to produce white smoke and yellow foam.

Fire authorities secured the area and completed safety measures two hours and two minutes after the initial report by removing the acid with absorbent pads and carrying out dilution work.

A fire official stated, "It appears that an elderly person collecting waste paper poured the remaining contents into the food waste bin while trying to collect the acid container," adding, "Fortunately, there were no casualties."
