Heavy rain, reaching the level of a heavy rain warning, fell across the central regions until earlier today, but the intensity has eased since this afternoon.
However, the rain is expected to intensify again starting tonight, July 9. A final round of heavy rain will be concentrated primarily in the Seoul metropolitan area and the Yeongseo region until tomorrow morning.
Here is the detailed precipitation forecast.
Up to 200mm or more of additional rain is expected in northern Gyeonggi Province and the central-northern inland areas of Gangwon Province, while Seoul and other parts of the metropolitan area and Gangwon Province will see up to 80mm more.
In particular, very heavy rain of up to 50mm per hour is expected in Gyeonggi and northern Gangwon until tomorrow dawn, and heavy downpours are also expected in Seoul and other parts of the metropolitan area and Gangwon Province until tomorrow morning.
Most of the rain in the southern regions will stop tonight, and the rain in the central regions will also mostly cease by tomorrow morning.
However, as soon as the rain stops, the heat will return immediately.
Currently, a heat wave advisory is in effect only for the Yeongnam region, but it is expected to expand across the country tomorrow.
There will be scattered showers in some central regions and North Jeolla Province tomorrow afternoon as well.
Tropical nights are expected tonight in Jeonju, Gwangju, and Jeju. Tomorrow's daytime high is expected to reach 29°C (84°F) in Seoul and 33°C (91°F) in Daegu, with high humidity making it feel muggy.
There is also a possibility that Seoul will experience its first tropical night of this summer tomorrow night.
Until early next week, the monsoon rain will be in a lull, and it will be hot both day and night.
