▲ Heavy rain falls in the area around Changjeon Intersection in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on July 9, as monsoon rains continue across the country.

As heavy rain warnings have been issued across all of Seoul, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has closed all 29 streams in the city as of 1:00 p.m. today.

Twenty-five rainwater pumping stations are also partially in operation.

The city government has sent official notices to all departments and affiliated organizations, urging thorough safety management in vulnerable areas such as streams and low-lying regions, and has also disseminated this information via text messages and social media.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government activated its Level 2 emergency response at 12:10 p.m., when the heavy rain warnings were issued.

Authorities have inspected sewer rainwater grates, patrolled areas prone to landslides, and strengthened monitoring by deploying personnel to underground roadways.

The Korea Meteorological Administration issued a heavy rain warning for the southwestern and northwestern parts of Seoul and a heavy rain advisory for the southeastern and northeastern parts of the city, effective as of 12:10 p.m.

Heavy rain advisories and warnings are issued when 3-hour rainfall is expected to reach 60 mm and 90 mm, respectively, or when 12-hour rainfall is expected to reach 110 mm and 180 mm, respectively.

Geumcheon-gu recorded the highest rainfall in Seoul today, with 73.5 mm of precipitation measured as of 1:00 p.m.

Gwanak-gu also experienced downpours reaching a maximum of 39 mm per hour.

As water levels in streams have risen, flood advisories have been issued for Mokgamcheon Stream and Dorimcheon Stream.

Operations of the Hangang Bus have been completely suspended, and a schedule for the resumption of service has not yet been determined.

The Hangang Bus operator requested that passengers check their website for updates on when service will resume.
