The Supreme Court has upheld a seven-year prison sentence for former President Yoon Suk Yeol on charges including the obstruction of an arrest by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) following the December 3 emergency martial law declaration.
This ruling comes 583 days after the declaration of the December 3 emergency martial law and marks the first Supreme Court decision among the various trials involving the former president.
The Third Division of the Supreme Court (Presiding Justice Lee Sook-yeon) held the sentencing hearing for the appeal on charges of special obstruction of official duties and abuse of power at 2:00 p.m. today (July 9) in Courtroom No. 1 of the Supreme Court, confirming the original sentence of seven years in prison.
Today's (July 9) sentencing was broadcast live, and the defendant, former President Yoon, did not appear in court.
