Former Hankyoreh Editor-in-Chief Lee Je-hoon Appointed as Head of National Institute for Unification and Democracy Education

The Ministry of Unification announced that it has appointed Lee Je-hoon, an adjunct professor at the University of North Korean Studies and former editor-in-chief of The Hankyoreh, as the head of the National Institute for Unification and Democracy Education.
The new head is a journalist-turned-expert in unification and diplomacy who built a long career in reporting at Kookmin Ilbo, Seoul Shinmun, and The Hankyoreh.
At The Hankyoreh, he served as the unification and diplomacy team leader, editor-in-chief of Hankyoreh 21, and social policy editor, before serving as editor-in-chief from March 2017 to April 2018. He worked as a reporter covering the Ministry of Unification until April of this year before applying for the position of head of the National Institute for Unification and Democracy Education.
The position of head of the National Institute for Unification and Democracy Education is a high-ranking civil service position (Grade A) open to external candidates, with a base term of two years that can be extended up to a maximum of five years.
