▲ Workers conduct restoration efforts after a road near the BRT intersection in Hanbyeol-dong, Sejong, was flooded by soil washed down from a construction site following heavy rain on the 9th.
Operations for conventional trains on the Gyeongbu and Chungbuk lines, which had been suspended due to heavy rain overnight, have resumed.
Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced that normal operations for conventional trains on the Gyeongbu Line resumed at 9:15 a.m., and on the Chungbuk Line at 9:52 a.m.
Previously, KORAIL had adjusted the operations of conventional trains due to heavy downpours in the section between Bugang Station and Seochang Station on the Gyeongbu Line during the early morning hours.
As of 8:00 a.m., a total of six trains had been suspended, including two Mugunghwa trains and one Saemaul train traveling between Daejeon and Seoul, two Mugunghwa trains connecting Daejeon and Jecheon, and one Mugunghwa train running between Iksan and Yongsan.
Around the same time, conventional train operations between Jochiwon and Doan on the Chungbuk Line were also suspended due to the heavy rain.
KORAIL explained that the suspension was a preemptive measure to ensure safety, rather than a result of track damage.
Currently, KTX high-speed trains are operating normally.
Due to the morning schedule adjustments, some passengers using conventional trains experienced inconvenience, such as having to disembark at Daejeon Station or Cheonan Station to transfer to KTX trains.
A KORAIL official stated, "We are preemptively adjusting train operations based on the locations of heavy rain and precipitation levels," adding, "We ask passengers to consider using alternative transportation or to check train operation information via the Korail Talk app or our website before traveling."
