The Supreme Court is set to deliver its ruling this afternoon, July 9, at 2:00 p.m. regarding the case of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who is charged with obstructing an arrest by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO).

This ruling comes 583 days after the declaration of the December 3 martial law and marks the first Supreme Court judgment among the various trials involving the former president.

The sentencing will be broadcast in real time. As the defendant is not required to attend the final appeal hearing, former President Yoon will not be present in court.

Former President Yoon was arrested and indicted by a special counsel team in July of last year on charges of mobilizing Presidential Security Service staff to block the execution of a CIO arrest warrant in January of last year, during the early stages of the investigation into the December 3 martial law.

The first trial found him guilty of charges including obstruction of arrest and sentenced him to five years in prison, while the second trial increased the sentence to seven years.
