Since yesterday (July 8), monsoon rain has been falling, primarily across the central and Honam regions.
In particular, as the stationary front has remained over the Chungcheong region for the longest duration, Gyeryong in South Chungcheong Province has seen over 165mm of heavy rain so far.
About two hours ago, the stationary front moved slightly northward, and currently, heavy rain of over 30mm per hour is falling in parts of Gyeonggi Province and the southern part of Gangwon Province.
Accordingly, heavy rain advisories are in effect for Gyeonggi, southern Gangwon, and the Chungcheong region.
As the stationary front is expected to oscillate north and south overnight, preliminary heavy rain alerts have also been issued for other parts of Gangwon, Chungcheong, the Honam region, and North Gyeongsang Province, where intense rain is anticipated.
In particular, residents should exercise extreme caution as up to 80mm of extreme rainfall per hour could pour down on the Chungcheong and Jeonbuk regions overnight.
Looking ahead, an additional 200mm or more of rain is expected in the Chungcheong and Jeonbuk regions.
Other parts of the central region and North Gyeongsang Province will also see heavy rainfall of up to 150mm or more.
The monsoon rain is expected to ease starting Friday afternoon, and sweltering heat, both day and night, will arrive over the weekend.
