The LG Twins have reclaimed the top spot in the professional baseball league just one day after losing it, following a victory over the Samsung Lions.
LG defeated Samsung 8-2 in a regular season away game of the 2026 Shinhan SOL KBO League held at Daegu Samsung Lions Park today (July 8).
After falling to second place yesterday due to a loss against Samsung, which left them behind in winning percentage despite having the same number of wins, LG has now climbed back to the lead.
The team that finishes first in the first half of the professional baseball season will be determined by the result of the match between the two teams at the same venue tomorrow.
Samsung saw its five-game winning streak come to an end.
LG fell behind 0-2 in the first inning after starting pitcher Im Chan-kyu gave up a two-run homer to Samsung's Choi Hyeong-woo, but the team leveled the score in the top of the third.
After two outs, Park Hae-min reached base with an infield single and successfully stole second base. Subsequent batters Austin Dean and Moon Bo-gyeong then hit consecutive RBI singles to tie the game at 2-2.
LG’s offense continued to produce hits after two outs in the fourth inning as well.
Oh Ji-hwan, Lee Jae-won, Koo Bon-hyeok, and Hong Chang-ki exploded with four consecutive hits, scoring three runs to turn the game around at 5-2.
Samsung brought in its third pitcher, Yura Miyaji, in the top of the fifth inning to shift the momentum, but Miyaji was ejected after throwing just three pitches, one of which hit the brim of LG batter Park Dong-won's helmet.
LG added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Leadoff batter Lee Jae-won hit a left-center double, and Koo Bon-hyeok followed with a sacrifice bunt to set up a one-out, runner-on-third situation, which Park Hae-min capitalized on with an RBI single to right field.
With two outs and runners on first and third, a wild pitch by Samsung pitcher Lee Jae-hee allowed LG to extend its lead to 7-2.
LG's leadoff hitter Hong Chang-ki recorded 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 walk, 2 RBIs, and 1 run, while second hitter Park Hae-min contributed 3 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 RBI, 1 run, and 1 stolen base, setting the stage for the victory.

They extended the lead to 5-1 with an RBI single by Kang Seung-ho in the fourth and a leadoff solo home run by Park Jun-soon in the fifth.
In the sixth, with no outs and runners on first and third, they added another run following a groundout by Jo Soo-haeng and an opponent error, before a sacrifice fly by Yang Eui-ji stretched the lead to 7-1.

At Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, the 8th-place Lotte Giants crushed the 4th-place KIA Tigers 11-3.
Lotte's foreign hitter Victor Reyes, who had 4 hits the previous day, led the team to victory again today with 3 hits in 4 at-bats, 1 walk, 1 RBI, and 2 runs.
KIA committed repeated errors in critical moments and fell into a four-game losing streak.
Lotte scored the first run in the first inning against KIA's foreign starting pitcher James Naile.

KIA pulled Naile and brought in Seong Young-tak to change the mood, but the momentum did not shift.
Lotte's next batter, Reyes, hit a left-center single, and runner Ko Seung-min scored thanks to a fielding error by KIA center fielder Kim Ho-ryeong.
Later, with one out and runners on first and second following a walk by Han Dong-hee, Park Chan-hyung hit a ball toward second base. KIA second baseman Kim Sun-bin failed to tag the runner on first, Han Dong-hee, and committed a throwing error to first base.
