Police have launched a compulsory investigation into a businessperson accused of posting sexually explicit images featuring a composite of Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Un-ju.
The Cyber Investigation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency conducted a search and seizure of the office and other locations associated with the businessperson, identified as A, on July 8. The individual faces charges of creating and distributing false imagery under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes, as well as charges of defamation.
Previously, on July 3, Lee's side announced that they would take legal action regarding online posts that featured Lee's face superimposed onto pornographic images.
At the time, Lee's side stated through a press release, "The perpetrator recently created and posted content online that included explicit sexual insults and obscene expressions reminiscent of sexual assault, along with images in which the victim's face was synthesized onto pornographic material."
They further emphasized, "This is malicious digital sexual violence intended to trample on the character and honor of a female politician and damage her social reputation by instrumentalizing her gender. We will take all possible legal measures without any leniency against the creator, those who participated in the creation, and those who distributed the material."
The Democratic Party announced that it has expelled the party member who posted the images.
The party also plans to file a formal complaint against the poster under the name of the party's National Communication Committee.
