Actor Go Youn-jung has officially confirmed her role in the upcoming film "Nambeol" (literal translation), marking her first on-screen collaboration with Lee Byung-hun.

"Nambeol" is a hard-boiled martial arts action film set in the early Joseon Dynasty. It follows a group of nine warriors, each with different skills and social backgrounds, as they head to Tsushima Island to rescue captives abducted by Japanese raiders. With the previously announced casting of Lee Byung-hun as Im Eok, the leader of the warriors, Go Youn-jung has now joined the star-studded lineup.

Go Youn-jung will play the role of Aeryeong, a character who loses her family to a raid and ventures onto the battlefield herself to save her younger sibling held captive on Tsushima Island. As a strong and independent character who pursues her goals amidst a chaotic era, she is expected to form another emotional pillar of the story. Having showcased her versatility in both high-intensity action and deep drama through projects such as "Sweet Home", "Hunt", "Alchemy of Souls", "Moving", "Resident Playbook", "Can This Love Be Translated?", and "We Are All Trying Here", Go Youn-jung is set to leave a powerful impression once again with a bold female character that breaks the conventions of period dramas.

"Nambeol" is drawing significant attention as the directorial debut of cinematographer Lee Mo-gae, who has showcased his unique mise-en-scène in acclaimed films such as "12.12: The Day", "Exhuma", "Hunt", "YADANG: The Snitch", and "Emergency Declaration". Recognized for his exceptional sense of style with awards including the Best Art Direction at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards, as well as multiple Best Cinematography and Lighting awards at the Blue Dragon Film Awards, he is expected to demonstrate his outstanding directorial vision by capturing grand narratives, intense action, and striking visuals in this project.

With the casting of Lee Byung-hun and Go Youn-jung raising expectations, "Nambeol" is currently in pre-production with the goal of beginning filming in the second half of 2026.
