North Korean General Secretary Kim Jong-un visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun today (July 8) to pay his respects on the 32nd anniversary of the death of Kim Il-sung, where the bodies of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il are enshrined.

The Korean Central News Agency reported that the General Secretary visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun at midnight on July 8, which it described as the greatest day of mourning for the party, the state, and the people.

The visit was attended by party officials, including members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Workers' Party of Korea, as well as leadership from the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly, the Cabinet, and the armed forces.

The agency stated that General Secretary Kim paid tribute to the statues of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il and wished for the eternal life of the two former leaders.

The Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the Workers' Party, featured this as the lead article on its front page. Given the customary practice of reporting Kim Jong-un's activities the following day, this can be seen as a relatively prompt response.

The Rodong Sinmun also published a series of articles on the same day praising Kim Il-sung, describing him as a "great man among great men who looked 100 to 200 years into the future" and an "unparalleled great man representing the 20th century."
