Wi Sung-lac, Director of the National Security Office, stated at the South Korean press center in Ankara, Turkey—where the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit is being held—on the 7th (local time), "Through this pledge of $100 million in comprehensive support for Ukraine, we have demonstrated our commitment to contributing to international peace and security through action."
Regarding the aid pledge, Director Wi emphasized, "We have consistently supported Ukraine through various channels, including humanitarian aid," adding, "This is an extension of those efforts to expand our contribution."
He further stated, "The Republic of Korea, as a responsible global power, will join forces with the international community to help end this horrific war as soon as possible and restore peaceful daily life."
Regarding the possibility of providing lethal weapons to Ukraine, a high-ranking official from the Presidential Office drew a clear line, stating, "Our position on supporting Ukraine remains unchanged," and added, "Our stance is that we do not provide lethal weapons."
The official mentioned, "We are preparing various forms of support in other areas, and this time, we are announcing a $100 million support package."
The official added, "Since the specific details of the support have not yet been finalized, we will continue to review them, but we will continue to provide support in other areas, excluding lethal weapons."
