Today (July 7), which marks Soseo, one of the 24 solar terms, the monsoon rain has entered a lull since this afternoon.

However, heavy rain is expected to fall in the central and Honam regions starting tomorrow morning. In particular, the rain will pour down intensely at a rate of up to 50mm per hour between tomorrow morning and tomorrow night, as well as from tomorrow night until early the day after tomorrow.

Please take precautions against heavy rain.

Regarding the expected rainfall, up to 200mm or more is forecast for South Chungcheong and North Jeolla provinces, over 150mm for other parts of the central region, and over 120mm for northern North Gyeongsang and northwestern South Jeolla provinces.

Preliminary heavy rain advisories have been issued for Gyeonggi, South Chungcheong, and parts of Gangwon regions, where heavy rain is expected starting tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, as the stationary front moves northward, some parts of Jeju and the Yeongnam region will see a lull in rain tomorrow, with heat waves bringing perceived temperatures to around 33°C (91°F).

Looking at the satellite imagery, you can see Typhoon Bavi moving northward. It is heading toward Shanghai, China, and will not affect the Korean Peninsula.

However, due to the typhoon's very strong intensity, it will push the North Pacific high-pressure system further toward Korea.

As a result, the stationary front will remain over the central region for the time being, while heat waves will occur in the south.

Tropical nights, with overnight low temperatures exceeding 25°C (77°F), are expected in some southern regions tonight, while daytime heat tomorrow will ease, mainly in the central and Honam regions.

Over the weekend, the monsoon front will temporarily move up to North Korea, leading to heat waves in Seoul as well.
