The Seongbuk-gu Office announced that the Seoul District Mayors Council held its first general meeting for the first year of the 9th popularly elected term at the PJ Hotel in Jung-gu, where Seongbuk-gu Mayor Lee Seung-ro was elected as the new chair.
The council, established in 1995, is an association of heads of autonomous districts in Seoul. The chair serves as a representative for the 25 autonomous districts, acting as a communication channel with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the central government.
The executive board was also formed during the general meeting held today (July 7).
Seo Kang-seok, the mayor of Songpa-gu and the immediate past chair of the council, was appointed as an advisor. The newly elected vice chairs are Yoo Chan-jong, mayor of Jongno-gu (Northwest region); Yoo Bo-hwa, mayor of Seongdong-gu (Northeast region); Jin Gyo-hoon, mayor of Gangseo-gu (Southwest region); and Kim Hyun-ki, mayor of Gangnam-gu (Southeast region).
Yoo Dong-kyun, mayor of Mapo-gu, will serve as secretary-general, and Ryu Sam-young, mayor of Dongjak-gu, will serve as auditor.
"Based on the experience I have accumulated while leading the district for three terms, I will faithfully perform my role as a bridge between the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the central government," said Chair Lee Seung-ro. "I will gather the collective voice of the autonomous districts through the council."
