A man who, while intoxicated, intentionally collided with a vehicle to commit insurance fraud has been referred to the prosecution.
The Guri Police Station announced that it referred a man in his 50s, identified by his surname Park, to the prosecution without detention last month on charges of violating the Special Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud.
In April, a report was filed in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, claiming that Park had been struck by a Morning vehicle that was reversing.
While it initially appeared to be a standard traffic accident, the investigation team became suspicious because Park had fallen down with excessive force despite the Morning vehicle moving in reverse at a slow speed. Upon reviewing CCTV footage from a different angle, Park's criminal act was uncovered.

Police investigation revealed that Park had been intoxicated and wandering around a crosswalk for 10 minutes before the accident, looking to induce a collision.
He was found to have jaywalked, jumped into the road twice, and even thrust his leg toward a passing taxi.
Park received approximately 900,000 won in insurance money from this accident, and it is reported that the insurance company has initiated procedures to recover the funds.
Park initially denied the charges, claiming, "I was on my way to smoke a cigarette when the accident happened." However, when the investigation team confronted him with the CCTV footage, he reportedly changed his stance, stating, "I don't remember it, but it is true that I collided with the car."
