The death toll from the earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 3,535, an increase of 193 from the previous day, National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez announced on July 6, local time.

As ten days have passed since the earthquake, the chances of survival for those trapped under the rubble have significantly diminished, yet misinformation continues to circulate amidst hopes for rescue.

El Nacional, a leading local newspaper, reported around 9 p.m. the previous day that rescue teams had saved four people, including children, in La Guaira State, but later retracted the report, stating it was not true.

The newspaper explained that the rescue footage used as the basis for the report was not recent, but from a previous rescue operation.
