President Lee Jae-myung and Prime Minister Han Sung-sook held their first weekly briefing session, combined with a luncheon, at the Blue House today (July 6), the Prime Minister's Office announced.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, President Lee held a preliminary conversation with Prime Minister Han prior to the meeting. During this time, he requested that the Prime Minister serve as the central pillar and lead the Cabinet with a sense of responsibility to ensure that the public can experience tangible results in the second year of his administration.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Han reported on four key agendas: the AI (artificial intelligence) transformation, the rationalization of regulations, a renaissance in startups, and the strengthening of policies for young people.
The Prime Minister's Office stated that President Lee expressed deep trust in Prime Minister Han's expertise in the AI and IT sectors, as well as her experience in private-sector innovation. He emphasized that the Prime Minister should have full authority to lead fundamental innovation not only in the work methods of the public sector but across all areas of state affairs.
Prime Minister Han also reported on measures to protect the lives of citizens based on AI and data.
In response, President Lee instructed her to prepare and swiftly implement groundbreaking measures that can protect and save the lives of citizens through technology.
The Prime Minister's Office added that President Lee and Prime Minister Han agreed to continue using the weekly briefing sessions to review and discuss major state issues and to cooperate closely to achieve results in state administration.
The meeting today was also attended by Chief of Staff to the President Kang Hoon-sik, Policy Chief Kim Yong-beom, National Security Office Director Wi Sung-lac, State Affairs Situation Room Chief Kim Jung-woo, and Minister for Government Policy Coordination Yoon Chang-ryul.
The weekly briefing is a consultative body for state affairs where the President and the Prime Minister meet regularly every week to share their understanding of the overall situation and pending issues, and to discuss and decide on the direction of their response.
During the term of former Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, these meetings were held 23 times over approximately one year.
