The Ministry of Justice is launching an AI-based self-reliance training program for model prisoners.
The Ministry of Justice announced today, July 6, that it has selected 19 inmates from Yeoju Correctional Institution and Cheongju Women's Correctional Institution who are enrolled in Korea National Open University and show a strong will for academic achievement and self-reliance. The training begins today.
Through this program, the ministry plans to support inmates in acquiring basic AI skills necessary for daily life and employment after their release.
Participants will learn the basics of generative AI, how to use AI for document drafting, and how to write resumes and cover letters.
The program is supported by a public-private partnership with KT's ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) division, which provided the necessary educational equipment and software.
The curriculum will also cover ethical awareness and the potential problems associated with AI misuse, such as deepfakes, the creation of misinformation, and copyright infringement.
During the training period, participants will only be allowed to access pre-approved educational AI websites, and internet access for any purpose other than training will be blocked.
Minister of Justice Jung Sung-ho stated, "We will provide practical education to help inmates adapt to society and become self-reliant after their release, while also ensuring thorough information security management and ethics training to keep the public safe."
