A person in their 50s has been apprehended by police for attempting to set fire to the hallway of a multi-unit housing complex in Daejeon.

The Daejeon Dunsan Police Station announced that they have detained and are investigating an individual, identified as A, on charges of attempted arson of an inhabited building.

A is accused of spraying a flammable substance in the hallway of a multi-unit house in Wolpyeong-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, at approximately 4:20 p.m. on July 4, and then setting fire to items such as an umbrella they were carrying.

There were no casualties as the fire did not spread into the building, but a portion of the hallway wall was scorched, resulting in property damage estimated by the fire department at 880,000 won.

The police are currently investigating A to determine the exact motive behind the crime.
