Kim Min-seok, former Prime Minister, officially announced his candidacy for the leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea today (July 6), pledging to "rebuild a Democratic Party that wins again."
Speaking in the Gwangju-Jeonnam Integrated City, Kim stated, "I declare my candidacy for the Democratic Party leadership with an infinite sense of responsibility for the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration." He further criticized the current state of the party, noting, "Over the past year, the harmful effects of self-serving politics have led to confusion in party affairs and cooperation between the party and the government. Under these circumstances, achieving success in state affairs, winning the general election, and maintaining party unity are difficult."
He went on to address issues such as the push for party mergers, prosecution reform, candidate nominations, and election strategies. Emphasizing the need for a change in how the party is managed, he remarked, "A lack of deliberation, insufficient discussion, inadequate procedures, and a lack of consistency have caused many problems."
