Kim Joo-hyung failed to capitalize on an opportunity to improve his FedEx Cup ranking at the PGA Tour John Deere Classic, which featured a total purse of 8.8 million dollars.
In the final round held today (July 6) at TPC Deere Run (par 71) in Silvis, Illinois, Kim carded an even-par 71, recording three birdies and three bogeys.
Finishing with a total of 9-under 275, Kim concluded the tournament, which saw the absence of many top-ranked players, in a tie for 46th place.
His FedEx Cup ranking dropped one spot from 57th to 58th.
To qualify for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first event of the PGA Tour playoffs, Kim must remain within the top 70.
The championship trophy of the John Deere Classic went to Chris Gotterup (USA).
Gotterup delivered a stellar performance in the final round, carding nine birdies without a single bogey to finish at 20-under 264, edging out runner-up Max Homa (USA, 19-under 265) by one stroke.
With this victory, his third of the season, Gotterup earned a winner's prize of 1.584 million dollars (approximately 2.4 billion won).
Ben Kohles (USA), who had been in contention for the title, was tied with Gotterup through the 17th hole, raising hopes for a win or a playoff. However, he hit his second shot into the water on the 18th hole (par 4), resulting in a double bogey and dropping him into a tie for 3rd place (18-under 266).
Im Sung-jae struggled, dropping five strokes to finish in a tie for 71st (3-under 281), and his FedEx Cup ranking remained unchanged at 60th.
