The Gyeonggi Ilsan Dongbu Police Station announced that it has referred a Goyang City Council member, identified as A, to the prosecution on charges of distributing private photos of an ex-partner and making threats.
Council member A is accused of taking photos of a woman's exposed body from the mobile phone of B, a district council member in Seoul with whom A was in a relationship last year. A is alleged to have subsequently distributed these photos to acquaintances and threatened B, stating that they would "prevent B from continuing a political career."
While it was reported that B filed a complaint against A in April on four charges, including intimidation, defamation, violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes, and violation of the Stalking Punishment Act, the police referred the case to the Goyang Branch of the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors Office on July 1, recognizing only two charges: intimidation and violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes.
Council member A reportedly denies the allegations.
