As the 250th anniversary celebration of the United States faces disruptions due to forecasts of severe weather, including extreme heat and storms, President Donald Trump has signaled his intention to proceed with his speech scheduled for tonight.
President Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, stating, "Storms are lucky in any event," and added, "They also make things a little more interesting."
He continued, "We will wait it out. I don't care if it's 2 a.m. or an hour from now."
This is interpreted as an indication that he intends to resume his speech and fireworks display, which were to be held in the National Mall area of Washington, D.C., but were delayed due to storm forecasts.
He added, "It is Saturday night. Let's have some fun, even if we are out there until late tonight," and said, "I am not going to let a little rain stop our 250th anniversary. I will be leaving the White House shortly (for the speech)."
President Trump remarked, "They say the speech is at 11 p.m., but who cares?" and recalled that during a mixed martial arts (UFC) event in front of the White House on June 14, there was a 100% chance of heavy rain forecast, but it did not rain.
According to the event organizer, 'Freedom 250,' President Trump's speech was originally scheduled for 9:45 p.m. and the fireworks display for 10:30 p.m., but there are observations that even if they proceed, they will be significantly delayed from the original schedule.
