North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has overseen tests of major weapons systems, including missiles and naval guns, installed on the new 5,000-ton destroyer 'Kang Gon-ho,' which had previously run aground during its launch ceremony.
The Korean Central News Agency reported that, in accordance with the performance evaluation plan for the combat systems of the destroyer 'Kang Gon-ho,' tests were conducted yesterday, July 3, for strategic cruise missile launches, as well as naval guns, automatic cannons, and electronic warfare assets.
Watching the tests from the coast, Kim stated, "We will demonstrate our political will and determination to possess absolute power through even clearer actions."
Kim instructed the navy to complete the testing process for the 'Kang Gon-ho' and commission the vessel within two months.
The 'Kang Gon-ho' tilted and ran aground while being launched in May of last year. Although the ship was salvaged 22 days after the accident and the launch ceremony was pushed through, questions have persisted regarding its operational status.
