A series of reports regarding shark sightings have been filed off the coast of Gangneung, Gangwon Province.

According to the Gangneung Coast Guard and other authorities, a report was received around 2:00 p.m. today from a fishing boat operating in the waters east of Gyeongpo Beach, stating that a shark had appeared.

Subsequently, another report of a shark sighting was made in waters 4 kilometers east of Anmok Beach.

In response, the city of Gangneung sent out a disaster text message at approximately 4:51 p.m., advising the public to "exercise caution regarding safety during marine leisure and swimming activities."

The Gangneung Coast Guard has also urged nearby leisure businesses and fishing vessels to take extra precautions following the reports of shark sightings.

The city has also requested that beaches in the Gangneung area broadcast safety warnings via loudspeakers due to the shark sightings.

The Coast Guard has instructed coastal patrol stations to strengthen patrols and safety operations using coastal rescue boats and patrol vessels.

At the time the shark sightings were reported, Gyeongpo Beach was holding its opening ceremony for the year.
