A wildfire broke out in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) near Oemyeon-ri, Sudong-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gangwon Province, at approximately 1:10 p.m. today, July 4.

Forestry and fire authorities have deployed one helicopter to carry out suppression operations.

The site of the fire is located 1.7 kilometers south of the Military Demarcation Line and 8.3 kilometers north of the Southern Limit Line, making it impossible to deploy personnel for ground-based firefighting.

In preparation for the potential spread of the fire, 18 personnel and 6 pieces of equipment are on standby near the Southern Limit Line.

Authorities plan to investigate the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage once the blaze is fully extinguished.
