At approximately 4:50 a.m. today (July 4), a refrigerated truck struck an SUV that was stopped on the shoulder of the Yeongdong Expressway near the Gangneung Junction in Gangneung, Gangwon Province.

Immediately after the initial collision, the driver of the SUV, identified as B, exited the vehicle to handle the situation on the shoulder. While doing so, the driver was struck by a following 8.5-ton cargo truck and died.

The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident based on witness statements and CCTV footage.
