The funeral for Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, who was killed in U.S. and Israeli airstrikes, begins today, July 4, about four months after his death.
Leaders from Iran's allied nations have begun paying their respects. From Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, attended, while China dispatched He Wei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
Officials from regional countries including Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan also attended in large numbers. Iranian authorities expect a procession of 20 million mourners to participate in the funeral, which will continue until July 9.
