Last night, in front of Suwon City Hall in Gyeonggi Province.
A special crackdown on drunk driving for the summer vacation season began, with even drones deployed to prepare for potential incidents, such as vehicles attempting to flee.
Just 20 minutes into the operation, police officers pulled a man out of his car.
[Close your mouth tightly around the mouthpiece and blow hard, like inflating a balloon, until I tell you to stop. Keep going, keep going.]
The blood alcohol concentration level shown on the device was at the level for license suspension.
[Sir, it came out to 0.047. This is a level that results in a 100-day license suspension.]
The man confessed that he had consumed beer during dinner.
[(What kind of alcohol did you drink and how much?) About one bottle of beer. (How far do you think you drove? Approximately.) About 400 to 500 meters.]
A woman who revealed she had consumed two cans of beer two hours earlier could not avoid the crackdown either.
[(How long has it been since you put down your glass? 20 minutes? Two hours ago.) I drank at 7 p.m.]
Although she rinsed her mouth with water before blowing into the device, it still registered a level for license suspension.
[(0.050. It came out to a level for a 100-day license suspension. If you object to this reading, you can choose to have a blood test.) No, no, I have no objections.]
As a result of the crackdown conducted last night, centered around busy districts in the southern Gyeonggi region, a total of 21 cases were caught in two hours, including 10 license revocations and 11 suspensions.
[Choi Myeong-sik/Chief of Traffic Safety, Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency: To ensure that a happy vacation with your family does not turn into a tragedy in an instant, please do not get behind the wheel if you have had even a single glass of alcohol.]
The police plan to conduct special crackdowns in areas with high frequencies of drunk driving accidents every Friday and Saturday evening until next month.
