A woman in her 20s has been referred to the prosecution for spreading false information about the 5·18 Democratization Movement on her internet blog.

On June 30, the Busan Jin Police Station referred the woman, identified as A, to the prosecution without detention on charges of violating the Special Act on the 5·18 Democratization Movement.

A is accused of spreading false information regarding the 5·18 Democratization Movement by posting an article titled "The Reality of That Day: 5·18 Riot, Revolution, Democratization, Chun Doo-hwan, Park Chung-hee, and Armed Guerrilla Incident" on her blog in May of last year.

During police questioning, A reportedly confessed that she wrote the post by copying and pasting content from an open group chat.

According to Article 8 of the Special Act on the 5·18 Democratization Movement, which went into effect in July 2022, those who spread false information about the 5·18 Democratization Movement can be punished by up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 50 million won.
