Stars often draw envy when they reveal their luxurious homes through variety shows or social media.
However, there is a persistent downside: such exposure of their private lives can make them targets for crime.
Rapper Simon Dominic recently appeared on a YouTube channel and shared a harrowing experience of being robbed in the past.
The thief targeted a high-end luxury watch owned by the rapper.
The watch, which is fully set with diamonds, is known to be an ultra-expensive item currently valued between 700 million won and 1 billion won.
The process of catching the culprit was like something out of a movie.
The thief took the stolen watch to be sold at none other than a watch shop that Simon Dominic frequently visited.
An acquaintance of the rapper, who happened to be at the shop, spotted the familiar watch, leading to the thief's downfall.
Simon Dominic visited the scene and confirmed it was his watch by checking details such as the length of the watch strap.
Later, after checking CCTV footage with the police, he was able to catch the culprit based on the identification card the thief had left behind while putting the watch up for consignment sale.
Although he managed to recover the watch after many twists and turns, the emotional trauma remained deep.
Simon Dominic confessed that he suffered from aftereffects due to the fear caused by the break-in, and that he no longer films inside his home.
In fact, in the video released that day, the interior of Simon Dominic's home was completely blurred out, making it impossible to gauge its location or layout, which drew attention.
Simon Dominic is not the only celebrity to have become a target of crime after revealing their private life through media.
Previously, actors Nana and Kim Gyu-ri, and television personality Park Na-rae have also confessed to suffering from trespassing or theft after their homes were exposed.
The personal spaces that celebrities reveal to communicate with the public and build a friendly image are instead becoming channels for crime.
There are calls for celebrities to exercise extra caution regarding media exposure, alongside the need for measures to protect their privacy.
