The joint investigation team of police and prosecutors, launched to uncover the truth behind the "ballot paper shortage incident," is continuing to summon and question officials from the National Election Commission (NEC) on a daily basis.
The joint investigation team summoned an election officer from the Songpa-gu Election Commission, two members of the election commission, and one official from the Songpa-gu District Office's election task force as witnesses today (July 3).
The team plans to determine through these individuals how NEC officials who were informed of the ballot shortage reported the situation internally and what instructions they received.
The joint investigation team is also questioning one official from the Songpa-gu Election Commission regarding the investigation into the damage to ballot boxes.
Previously, the Seoul Eastern District Court conducted an on-site inspection of the No. 2 polling station in Jamsil 7-dong on June 10 to secure evidence related to the ballot shortage, but the ballot boxes that were the target of the evidence collection were already missing.
An NEC official explained that the boxes were discarded before they received the court's list of items for evidence preservation.
The joint investigation team intends to determine the timing and circumstances behind the decision to discard the ballot boxes by questioning the NEC official.
