Spain dominated Austria from the start, led by 18-year-old prodigy Yamal, but struggled to find the back of the net early on.

In the 29th minute of the first half, Cucurella found the net with a left-footed shot, but the goal was disallowed due to a foul by a teammate. Subsequent sharp shots from Yamal and Oyarzabal were also blocked by the goalkeeper.

The frustrating deadlock was broken in the 36th minute of the first half.

Oyarzabal connected with a low, fast cross from Cucurella on the flank, firing a left-footed shot to score the opening goal.

Spain kept up the momentum and extended their lead in the 21st minute of the second half.

Porro, a former Tottenham teammate of Son Heung-min, headed in a cross from Baena to score his first-ever goal in an international match, widening the gap. Late in the second half, Oyarzabal, the scorer of the opening goal, netted his fourth goal of the tournament to complete his second multi-goal game and seal the victory.

Spain, which dominated Austria defensively by not allowing a single shot on target throughout the match, won 3-0 and advanced to the Round of 16.

Portugal defeated Croatia 2-1 after a hard-fought battle.

Superstar Ronaldo scored his first-ever World Cup tournament goal with a penalty kick equalizer, and Ramos netted a dramatic winning goal in second-half stoppage time.

Although Portugal was struck by a late threat just before the final whistle, the goal by Croatia was disallowed for offside following a video assistant referee (VAR) review, allowing Portugal to advance to the Round of 16.

Portugal and Spain will face off on July 7 for a spot in the quarterfinals.
