The Supreme Court has finalized their prison sentences.

The Supreme Court upheld the lower court's ruling, which sentenced a man in his 40s, identified by his surname Yong, to two years in prison for attempted extortion, by dismissing his appeal last month.

A woman in her 20s, identified by her surname Yang, who was indicted alongside him on charges including extortion, had her four-year prison sentence finalized after she did not appeal the appellate court's decision made in April.

Yang was indicted on charges of extorting 300 million won from Son in 2024 by threatening to expose that she was pregnant with his child.

Investigations revealed that Son paid the 300 million won out of concern that his reputation and career as an athlete could be damaged.

Yang and Yong, who were in a romantic relationship, were also charged with attempting to extort an additional 70 million won in March of last year by threatening to reveal "facts about pregnancy and abortion" to the media, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
