A man in his 40s has been arrested for attempting to commit arson inside a subway train using a lighter and an insecticide spray.
Judge Budongsik, in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, issued an arrest warrant for the suspect, identified by his surname Kim, today (July 1) after conducting a pre-arrest interrogation. The judge stated that there is a risk of the suspect fleeing. Kim is accused of attempted arson of a vehicle in use.
Kim is suspected of attempting to ignite a lighter and spray insecticide toward the emergency door release mechanism inside a subway train heading from Myeong-dong Station to Chungmuro Station on Line 4 around 9:00 p.m. on June 29.
Police arrested Kim approximately 10 minutes after receiving the report. Passengers intervened to stop him, and no actual fire broke out.
