The joint investigation team of prosecutors and police, which is probing allegations of corruption involving the collusion between religion and politics, has summoned Lee Hee-ja, head of the Korea Geunwoohoe, who has been identified as a link between the Shincheonji Church of Jesus and the political sphere.

The joint investigation team is questioning Lee today, July 1, as a witness regarding the violation of the Political Parties Act in connection with Shincheonji’s organized efforts to force its members to join the People Power Party.

This is the first time Lee has been summoned for questioning by the joint investigation team.

Lee is suspected of having connected Shincheonji Chairman Lee Man-hee with influential politicians, including former President Yoon Suk Yeol. The joint investigation team is expected to question her on what role she played in the process of Shincheonji members joining the People Power Party during major election periods, such as the party's presidential primary in 2021.
