The People Power Party has continued its harsh criticism of the plan for a semiconductor base in the Honam region, calling it a "political semiconductor show" that lacks any timeline for implementation. The Democratic Party of Korea stated that it would support the success of the project through the enactment of a special act and the allocation of additional budget.

The People Power Party argued again yesterday (June 30) that the government's "three mega projects," including the creation of a semiconductor production base in Honam, are a "mega abuse of power" that lacks feasibility and fairness.

In particular, the party disparaged the plan as a "political semiconductor show filled only with numbers," noting that it lacks concrete investment plans such as timelines for when the projects will be implemented.

[Jeong Jeom-sik / Floor Leader of the People Power Party: A hasty push is not beneficial to Honam, nor is it beneficial to the entire Republic of Korea. The opposition party has no choice but to seriously consider a parliamentary investigation.]

The party also claimed that if the results were driven by coercion of companies, criminal punishment would be inevitable.

Lawmakers from the People Power Party representing the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions also demanded the immediate disclosure of the "site selection evaluation table," asking why Honam was chosen and what criteria were used.

On the other hand, the Democratic Party of Korea pledged to support the success of the projects, stating that the "three mega projects" will serve as a new milestone for balanced regional development as investments will be made across the country, including not only Honam but also Chungcheong, Yeongnam, and Gangwon.

[Han Byung-do / Floor Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea: Projects with clear potential should be accelerated, even if it means enacting a special act. For projects that need seed money, we will ensure there are no obstacles, even if it means allocating additional budget.]

In particular, Democratic Party lawmakers launched a counterattack against the People Power Party's offensive regarding the Honam semiconductor complex, stating, "They are explicitly revealing the perception that it must be Yeongnam or nothing," and "They are once again driving Honam into a position of exclusion."
