President Lee Jae-myung attended the National Report Meeting on the Development Vision for High-Tech Industries in the Southwest Region, held in Gwangju this afternoon (June 30).

President Lee is set to encourage business leaders who have decided to make large-scale investments in the southwest region and unveil a vision for the government and businesses to work together to foster the region as a new hub for high-tech industrial growth.

Prior to this, Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Jun Young-hyun, SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-jung, and Amkor Technology Korea CEO Lee Jin-an will personally announce investment plans, including semiconductor fabrication plants (fabs) and artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.

Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jung-gwan and Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yun-deok also plan to explain strategies for fostering high-tech industries and support measures for industrial sites, respectively.

A ceremony for signing Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) between the companies announcing investment plans and government ministries is also scheduled.

This event was organized as a follow-up to the National Report Meeting on the 3 Major Mega-Projects for Korea's Great Leap Forward, which was held under the presidency of President Lee the previous day.

President Lee will continue the series of national report meetings on high-tech industry development visions for the Chungcheong region on July 2 in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, and for the Yeongnam region on July 3 in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province.

Companies such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Celltrion will participate in the Chungcheong region meeting, while companies including Samsung, SK Telecom, Hyundai Motor, and Hanwha will participate in the Yeongnam region meeting.
