K-pop group RESENE has been appointed as honorary ambassadors for Gyeongju tourism, continuing their streak of promoting local regions.

On June 29, the city of Gyeongju announced the appointment of RESENE (Woni, Liv, Minami, May, Zena) as honorary ambassadors. The group will work to promote the charm and diverse tourism content of Gyeongju, a city known for its rich history and culture, to both domestic and international audiences.

The appointment was heavily influenced by member Zena, who hails from Gyeongju. Zena recently gained significant attention for her use of the Gyeongsang-do dialect on member Woni's personal YouTube channel, "Hello, I'm Woni, Please Take Care of Me," earning her the nickname "Silla Princess." Her affection for her hometown and her relatable charm resonated with the public, leading to this ambassador role.

Gyeongju officials stated, "As K-pop exerts a powerful influence globally, we needed ambassadors who could connect more closely with the younger generation and international tourists. RESENE, which includes Gyeongju native Zena, is a team that possesses both local relevance and public appeal." They added, "We look forward to RESENE, with their youthful and fresh charm, serving as reliable ambassadors to widely promote Gyeongju's history, culture, and tourism resources."

RESENE has been on a steep upward trajectory, capturing both public interest and buzz through their recent YouTube content.

On Woni's personal channel, Minami's "Gyaru" character and Zena's Gyeongsang-do dialect content have gone viral. In particular, Minami's catchphrase "Geoje, Yahoo!" became a meme that spread across social media and online communities. This led to the city of Geoje utilizing the phrase for their own promotions and subsequently appointing RESENE as their honorary ambassadors. Following their role as ambassadors for Suwon, this appointment as Gyeongju tourism ambassadors marks their latest success as the face of various regions.

This popularity has also translated into their music. The title track of their first mini-album, "LOVE ATTACK," successfully climbed back up the music charts thanks to the popularity of their YouTube content.

Meanwhile, RESENE is set to make a comeback with the release of their remake single "Pretty Girl" on July 8.
