Amid escalating military clashes between the United States and Iran that have jeopardized their previous memorandum of understanding (MOU), Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in neighboring Iraq on Sunday, June 28 (local time).

In an official statement released on social media, Minister Araghchi announced that he departed for Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, earlier this morning.

The Arab news outlet Al Arabiya reported that Minister Araghchi has arrived in Baghdad.

During this official visit, Minister Araghchi is scheduled to meet with high-ranking Iraqi officials to discuss and exchange views on regional and international affairs.

Minister Araghchi explained that one of the key agenda items is to coordinate with Iraqi authorities on holding part of the funeral proceedings for the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, scheduled for early next month, at holy sites in Iraq.

However, given the heightened tensions following the exchange of airstrikes between the U.S. and Iran that began yesterday, it is expected that this situation will also be addressed during the visit.
