Iran has launched retaliatory attacks targeting U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.
According to TASS news agency on June 28 (local time), the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that it destroyed eight major U.S. military infrastructure facilities, including the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet base at Salman Port in Bahrain, using missiles and drones in retaliation for U.S. airstrikes.
The Revolutionary Guard further threatened to completely suspend all diplomatic procedures if the United States continues to violate the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on a cease-fire between the two countries.
The IRGC Navy command hinted at the possibility of additional attacks, stating, "U.S. military bases in the Middle East will experience hell in the coming days."
The United States has also confirmed that Iran launched missiles and drones.
A U.S. official confirmed to Reuters that Iran launched multiple missiles and drones toward Bahrain, Kuwait, and other locations, but stated, "As of now, there have been no reports of U.S. casualties or significant damage to facilities."
The Kuwaiti military announced via X (formerly Twitter) on the same day that its air defense systems intercepted hostile missiles and drones, while the Bahraini Ministry of Interior sounded air raid sirens and urged residents to evacuate.
Since signing a cease-fire MOU last month, the United States and Iran have been locked in a cycle of attacks on civilian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, followed by U.S. airstrikes and subsequent Iranian retaliatory attacks.
The U.S. conducted airstrikes on Iranian military facilities after a civilian vessel passing through the Strait of Hormuz was attacked by Iran on June 25, and carried out additional strikes after an oil tanker was attacked again on June 27.
With Iran now launching attacks targeting U.S. military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain, tensions between the two nations are escalating once again.
