It would be best to dress in light, cool clothing if you are heading out today, June 28.

Intense heat is expected to persist.

Temperatures in western regions, including Seoul and Gwangju, are forecast to reach a high of 32°C (90°F), making for a hot day.

In contrast, the east coast will remain cooler, with Gangneung reaching a high of 28°C (82°F).

Scattered, intense showers are expected in western regions from this afternoon through the night.

The showers are caused by the collision of cold air in the upper atmosphere and high temperatures near the ground, which triggers the development of rain clouds.

When these showers occur today, they may be accompanied by gusts of wind, thunder, and lightning, particularly in inland areas of the central region.

Some areas may also experience hail, so caution is advised.

With little cloud cover to block the sun, the ultraviolet index will reach very high levels in many parts of the country.

Exposure to this level of sunlight can cause skin burns within minutes, so please take care to protect yourself by wearing long sleeves or using a parasol when going outside.

Showers are also forecast for various western regions tomorrow, Monday.

Rain is expected to begin in Jeju starting Wednesday.
