The U.S. military has conducted airstrikes against Iran near the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. online media outlet Axios reported on June 27 (local time).

Citing U.S. officials, Axios reported that the strikes were in response to an Iranian attack on a merchant ship that occurred earlier this morning.

This marks the second consecutive day of U.S. airstrikes against Iran.

The day before, the U.S. military also struck Iranian missile and drone storage facilities near the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for an Iranian attack on a merchant ship.

Iran has also launched a counterattack.

While Iran did not disclose the specific targets of its strikes, Bahrain issued a statement condemning an Iranian drone attack on its territory.

As the U.S. and Iran continue their military exchanges while in the process of negotiating follow-up measures to a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on ending hostilities, concerns are growing that the ceasefire based on the MOU has become increasingly precarious.
